DailyMusicDrills is now on TikTok. Our account, @dailymusicdrills, is up and running with short videos that make music theory and musicianship skills easier to understand and practice.
Our first videos cover three useful foundations:
What is an interval?
An interval is the distance in pitch between two notes. Watch the video to hear the same ascending perfect fifth from three different starting notes: C to G, D to A, and E to B.

Imagine clapping a rhythm on first sight
How do you turn written rhythm into sound? This video introduces quarter notes and pairs of eighth notes in 4/4 time, using “tea” and “coffee” as simple rhythm-reading aids.
The helper words make the durations easier to feel, but they are not note names. See the video alongside more practice advice in our guide to sight-reading exercises online.
Major or minor? Hear one note change
Our third video compares C major and C minor on the piano. C and G stay fixed; lowering E by a half step to E-flat changes the chord from major to minor.
